Mount Tsurugi in Tokushima
Apr 4, 2024

We love climbing mountains but obviously it's hard to do so when you only have a couple of days in the area. We read that Mount Tsurugi is the second highest mountain in Shikoku so we thought "It must be pretty cool!"
Luckily we rented a car so we were able to drive a long way up. The drive is winding and the roads are narrow, so you have to drive carefully especially when going back down.

This might have been cheating a little bit but we took the chairlift up which brought us quite close to the peak. From there it was only about a 35 minute hike to the summit of Mount Tsurugi. I think if you are unfamiliar with the area and you just want a short hike, this chairlift option might be the best.

The hike up is pretty easy and the steep parts have reasonable stairs.

We were surprised to find a building at the summit, I think it was a small cafe but it was closed on this particular day.

They were drying pillows on the roof. I think this is a pretty nice introspective photo and also highly reflective of Japanese culture. The sunny day was not to be wasted and pillows had to be air-dried. They were so neatly placed.

Happy us at the summit! We were thankful for beautiful weather that day. We met a local and he said we were lucky, because such clear skies were rare.
